Quantitative Data Analysis: Industry Diversification and Resource Allocation
Advanced Seminar Strategy, Technology and Organization
This seminar will be jointly organized with the Institute for Capital Markets and Corporate Finance (KMF)
Handling large amounts of data and using it to generate knowledge poses both a challenge and an opportunity for academics and managers alike. Knowledge about quantitative methods is therefore important not only for writing final theses, but is also becoming increasingly important for future career building. This seminar aims to provide you with knowledge and experience in quantitative data analysis. It will provide an overview on different quantitative methods, before students apply these methods hands-on while preparing seminar papers. A second goal is to learn how to critically read data to discover and correct inconsistencies. Students will work on several firm-level datasets that will be prepared and analyzed using the statistical software STATA.
The seminar will begin with a one day kickoff session, where the lecturers will introduce students to the setting and recap some empirical methods. This is followed by a 4*1,5 hour introductive session to the statistical software STATA. Students will regularly meet with a supervisor. After four weeks, students will present their preliminary results and then write up their results in a seminar paper.
