Prof. Dr. Thorsten Grohsjean

Course Overview

This course is targeted at both Master of Science and Master of Business Research students with an interest in organization science. It aims to provide them with insights on topics in research on both organization design and organizational behaviour. After a kick-off session on the research process with a special emphasis on empirical organizational topics students will work on a research proposal for a research project.

Course Goals

The course has four goals. First, students will gain an overview of the evolution of fundamental topics in organization science. Second, they will learn to critically read academic papers, enabling them to assess causal arguments. Third, students will learn how to develop research questions and how to make a theoretical contribution. Finally, they will learn how to develop a sound research design that helps them to rigorously answer their research questions. We expect the course to be useful as a preparation for a master thesis or a PhD paper in the field of organization.
