Empirics of Organizations

Seminar Empirics of Organizations

Prof. Pooyan Khashabi, Ph.D.

Course Overview

This course is targeted at both Master of Science and Master of Business Research students with an interest in organization topics, especially with an empirical approach. It aims to provide them with insights on organization design and strategic organization research. After lecture sessions on the process of research with a special emphasis on empirical organizational topics, students will work on a research proposal for a research project.

Course Goals

The course has three goals in the broad field of empirical organizations. First, students will learn to critically read academic papers, enabling them to assess causal arguments. Second, they will learn how to develop research questions and how to make a contribution. Finally, they will learn how to develop a sound research design that helps them to rigorously answer their research questions. We expect the course to be useful as a preparation for a master thesis or a PhD paper in the field of organization and even its intersections with Innovation or Strategy research.
